Well what a wonderful time we had at The Bob Baker Preservation Celebration, the weather was just right for kicking off our fundraiser! The Ukelele Orchestra of the Western Hemisphere welcomed people to the theater with strumming pep, and Charles Phoenix was wearing the most fabulous colorful suit and MC’d the festivities expertly. The puppet show contained all of the best numbers from 50 years of shows at the Bob Baker Theater, it was a show to be rivaled, a collection of skilled marionette vignettes that charmed everyone who came. Afterward, there was much socializing and the silent auction concluded while people relaxed outside and listened to live cello music in the summer breeze of the courtyard.

We’d like to send a very heartfelt thank you to all of our supporters, visitors, volunteers, friends and fans for taking part in the event. It meant a lot to Bob, he was tickled pink to see everyone mingling and talking, socializing and watching the puppets do their magic.

If you’d like to see photos of the fun we had, here is the album on the theater’s Facebook page.

We will see you at future events, and speaking of events, here’s a FREE one this upcoming Sunday!

The Bob Baker Marionettes will be at MacArthur Park Sunday, August 5th, 2012. The show starts at 4 p.m.
The festival is FREE and is great for kids. There will be open lawn seating so bring a blanket and enjoy an evening of fun.

Our Quest: Our goal is to kick off a fundraising campaign at the July 29 Gala to give Bob Baker’s puppet family a permanent home! We have great plans for being a center of puppet arts and culture in Los Angeles for the next 100 years. Help us to get there!

About the Bob Baker Marionette Theater… Fifty years ago, master puppeteer Bob Baker founded the world famous Bob Baker Marionette Theater. Since then, the Theater and its talented puppeteers have served over 700,000 people. Children come from schools across Los Angeles and Southern California annually to be inspired by the art of storytelling through puppets. Many schools can’t afford full price tickets, and the Theater subsidizes tickets with the help of fundraising by its partner non-profit, the Academy of Puppetry and Allied Arts, and generous community grant makers. Last year alone, the Theater served nearly 12,000 children and families. The Theater is now a historic landmark in Los Angeles. It is one of the city’s great cultural resources, and a link to both Los Angeles’s great past and its great future!
